With Adagio I began exploring the contrasting textures between the indestructible ship and the inevitable rusty surface that was to come. The background layers of the musical score paved the way for the later pieces in the collection which work with historical documents. The title, "Adagio" means "at a slow tempo" in musical terminology. This title alludes to the slow disintegration of the ship over time.
