This was the first painting of the series. I'd read about the band of the Titanic and how they were reported to have continued playing even as the ship began to sink. There certainly seem to be enough accounts to support this idea. In my research I learned about violinist Jock Hume. At 21 he was the youngest of the band. His mother had begged him not to sail. This painting is dedicated to him and his fellow musicians. The musical score you can see is from Songe D'Automne - one of the final pieces of music to have been played.
