Unsinkable Memories: An Artistic Tribute to Titanic
April 25th - May 6th
Gallery Grounds - Southampton
I am thrilled to be able to show my entire collection of Titanic paintings at this beautiful new gallery in Southampton.
An inspiring exhibition commemorating the anniversary of Titanic’s fateful voyage. "Unsinkable Memories" also explores broader themes of maritime culture, resilience at sea, memories preserved by the ocean, and the timeless human connection with maritime heritage.
On 10th April 1912, RMS Titanic set sail from Southampton's White Star Dock on her maiden voyage to New York. My Great Great Uncle Ernest Portage Tomlin boarded Titanic at Southampton. He was returning to Drake University, Des Moines to continue his studies in Theology. His body was recovered from the ocean by the Halifax Cable ship Mackay Bennett on 15th April and later buried at sea.
This collection of original paintings is inspired by Ernest's story, the stories of other passengers and crew, and that of the "unsinkable" ship. Here you will discover paintings with texture and light all of which were created at my studio in Chippenham, Wiltshire.
